Term 1 Overview

Focus: Building a complex website with pictures edited in Adobe Photoshop

Term One will have a focus on creating a website using complex techniques.

We will also focus on User Experience Methodologies. These are methods we use when creating a website to ensure that they are easier to use.

In order to create our website we have to learn some complex techniques which are:

Non-core functionality
Sophisticated digital effects
Applying industry standards or guidelines
Responsive design for use on multiple devices
Integration of original media assets
Dynamic data handling and interactivity
Automation through scripts.

Why? and who cares?

Website development is in demand worldwide and you can easily start a business out of school developing websites locally. Although most people use Word press a fundamental understanding of CSS/HTML will aid you in any IT featured career as it is used for a large number of interfaces.

What is different from Level 2?

Picture
Level 2 (AS91893) had a focus on what we called advanced tools...

For websites that included external style sheets (CSS), curved buttons with colourful gradient fills, good layout and a well presented website.

For Photoshop it had to do with using layers, gradiant tools, drop shadows and colour swap tools.

Level 3  still will require you to use these skills as needed, however there will be a requirement to move to complex tools.

What to look for when learning CSS and HTML

In order to pass AS91903 you will have to show that you can successfully create a website using complex tools and techniques.

We will be focusing on the following tools and techniques:
  • Importing Javascript Libraries
  • Muiltiple Design
  • Classes and Pseudo Classes
We will be completing our final project using brackets.io

What to look for when learning Adobe Photoshop

Picture
Complex tools in photoshop are counted as the following:
  • Using Colour histograms and adjustments
  • Non destructive editing
  • Pen tools and paths
  • General graphic optimisations and colour managment
  • Filter Effects

You will also need to take your own photos, I recommend using your own cell phones for this.

Where should I start?

I recommend starting on this site for the Level 2's and reading through the lessons. Then when you are confident/done start working on the level 3 assessment.
